Detroit Woman Charged in Joy Road/Artesian Street Fatal Car Crash
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Sade Nicole Keith, 33, (DOB: 10/25/1986), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed a six-year-old male passenger in the vehicle she was driving.
On October 5, 2020 at approximately 6:28 p.m., Detroit Police wee dispatched to the area of Joy Road and Artesian in response to a two-vehicle car crash. EMS and Fire Department vehicles arrived along with the officers. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the defendant's vehicle on Joy Road, flipped over onto its roof. EMS transported three children and the driver to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The six-year-old boy was declared deceased at the scene.
It is alleged that Keith was driving eastbound on Joy Road at a high rate of speed and disregarded the red signal at Artesian Street. While crossing the intersection, her vehicle was struck by another car driving northbound on Artesian, flipped over and landed upside down on Joy Road. Four children - two six-year-olds, a three-year-old and a one-year-old infant - were unrestrained passengers in the rear seat of the defendant's vehicle. One of the six-year-old children and the one-year-old infant are the defendant's children. The other six-year-old boy, who was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, and his three-year-old brother, were the children of a friend. It is further alleged that the defendant was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Keith has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Operating While License Suspended, Revoked or Denied Causing Death, three counts of Child Abuse - Second Degree and four counts of Operating While Intoxicated - Occupant Less than 16 Years Old.* She was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 29, 2020 before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.
