Detroit Woman Charged in Non-Fatal Hit-and-Runs

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Virgilene Graham, 44, (DOB: 12/20/1975) of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal hit and run of three Detroit victims who are sisters.

On June 19, 2020 at approximately 5:24 p.m., the first victim and her seven-year-old son drove to a store in the 3100 block of Third Avenue in Detroit. While outside the store, she and her son were approached by the defendant asking for change. She declined, and she and her son went into the store. As she and her son got into their vehicle to leave, it is alleged the defendant blocked them with her vehicle. Eventually able to get around the defendant's vehicle, she and her son drove to a location in the 3400 block of Cornerstone Boulevard where she saw her sister, victim two.

Victim two was standing on the curb when she observed the defendant's vehicle as it approached. It is alleged that the defendant drove over the curb, struck victim two and a parked vehicle, put the vehicle in reverse and struck victim two again. It is further alleged that the defendant then drove her vehicle over the curb and struck another sister, victim three, on the south side of Peterboro Street before she again jumped the curb and struck her on the north side of Peterboro Street, before she hit a tree. Detroit police officers arrived and arrested the defendant at the scene. Medics also arrived on the scene and transported all three victims to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Graham has been charged with three counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, three counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, three counts of Felonious Assault and Reckless Driving.*

Graham was arraigned on October 7, 2020 before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 16, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 23, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford-Jones in 36th District Court. Please contact the Detroit Police Department for a photograph of the defendant.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
