Harper Woods Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Girlfriend
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Steven Mark Bratton, 43, (DOB: 11/18/1977), of Harper Woods in connection with the fatal shooting of his live in girlfriend, Katie Lynn Elliot, 37, of Harper Woods.
On September 20, 2020 at approximately 12:50 a.m., a Harper Woods dispatcher received a phone call that advised of a dead body in the backyard of a residence located in the 19100 block of Woodside Street in Harper Woods. Harper Woods police officers were dispatched to the location and upon arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim in the backyard of the residence, from an apparent gunshot wound. It is alleged that an argument between the defendant and the victim escalated and the defendant fatally shot the victim.
Bratton has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned and remanded to jail late this afternoon in 32A District Court in Harper Woods. His Probable Cause Conference is on September 30, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. and his Preliminary Examination is on October 7, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Please contact the Harper Woods Police Department for a photograph of the defendant.
