Detroit Mother and Friend Charged in Infant's Drowning

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dasiah Nichelle Jordan, 26 (DOB: 09/17/1991) and Tonya Desirae Peterson, 28, (DOB: 08/28/1989), both of Detroit, in connection with the death of Ca'Mya Davis, the 11-month-old infant daughter of Dasiah Nichelle Jordan.

On July 6, 2018 at approximately 11:30 p.m., EMTs responded to a 911 call in the 15000 block of Ferguson Street in Detroit regarding a child not breathing. Upon arrival, medics began CPR on the infant and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Earlier on July 6, 2017, it is alleged that Defendant Jordan left her infant daughter in the care of Defendant Peterson in an unsafe home and went out to visit friends. The infant roamed the house unattended, fell through the hole in a bedroom floor, and drowned in standing water and sewage in the basement. Defendant Peterson and Defendant Jordan were both aware of the hazardous and unsafe condition in the bedroom.

Defendants Jordan and Peterson have both been charged with Manslaughter and Child Abuse - Second Degree*. Defendant Jordan was arraigned July 17, 2018 before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 24, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 30, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10% bond.

Defendant Peterson was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The probable cause conference is scheduled for July 24, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for July 30, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $55,000/10% bond.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
