Detroit Teen Charged as Co-Defendant In West Eight Mile Road Homicide
On Friday, March 9, 2018, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged 16-year-old Deante Controll Taylor (DOB: 11/06/2001), of Detroit, MI, as an adult co-defendant in connection with the homicide of Xavier Dawn Pratcher, age 61, of Southfield, MI. On February 28, 2018, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Edjuan Darico-Donald Jackson, 27 (DOB: 09/13/1990), of Detroit, MI, in connection with the homicide of Xavier Dawn Pratcher, age 61, of Southfield, MI.
On February 18, 2018 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to West Eight Mile Road and Rosemont Street in Detroit. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying in the eastbound lanes of West Eight Mile Road with an apparent head injury. Medics arrived and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. It is alleged that on February 18, 2018 at 1:30 a.m., Taylor and Jackson struck and kicked the victim while he was crossing West Eight Mile Road. The victim lost consciousness in the roadway and was subsequently struck by a vehicle. Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the identification of defendant.
Jackson was charged with Murder - Second Degree* and arraigned out-county by District Court Magistrate Elizabeth Disanto. The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 6, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court.
Taylor was charged with Second Degree Murder* and was arraigned and remanded on Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus. His Probable Cause Conference will be on March 23, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 28, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. His case will be consolidated with Jackson's case.
*The charges are allegations unless and until the defendant is convicted.
