Dearborn Heights Man Charged in Fatal Gas Station Shooting
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Rami Ali Jaber, 26, (DOB: 10/01/1991) of Dearborn Heights, Michigan in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a gas station on West McNichols in Detroit.
On May 13, 2018 at approximately 3:54 p.m., Detroit police were dispatched to a Citgo gas station located in the 17800 block of West McNichols in Detroit. Upon arrival, the officers observed medics on the scene, who transported the victim, Derek Leon Roberts, 34, of Detroit, to a local hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
It is alleged that the victim approached the counter to make a purchase and a disturbance occurred between the victim and the defendant. It is further alleged the defendant fired a handgun, fatally striking the victim. The defendant was arrested at the scene. The facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.
Jaber has been charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm*. He was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for May 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for June 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant was remanded to jail.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
