Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Shooting on Kensington Street
On September 25, 2018, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Cornelius Leshawn Dennis, 32 (DOB: 12/12/1985), in connection with the fatal shooting of Roberta Martin, 64, and the non-fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, all of Detroit.
On September 24, 2018 at approximately 2:50 a.m., it is alleged that Dennis forced entry into Ms. Martin's home, located in the 5200 block of Kensington in Detroit, and fatally shot her multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The defendant also shot his ex-girlfriend and a man who were inside the home at the time. Both were treated at a local hospital for their injuries. It is alleged that after the shooting, Dennis fled from the location. He was brought into custody on November 19, 2018.
Dennis has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Home Invasion - First Degree and three counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court. His Probable Cause Conference is on December 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. and his Preliminary Examination is on December 10, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
