Redford Township Parents Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Five-Year-Old Daughter

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jonclaude Norwood Sr., 27 (DOB: 07/09/1992) and Melissa Ann Kiser, 27, (DOB: 11/23/1992), both of Redford Township, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of their five-year-old daughter by their four-year-old son.

On July 6, 2020 at approximately 1:39 a.m., Redford Township police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 26500 block of Plymouth Road in Redford Township, in response to a call about child shot in the head. Upon arrival, the officers located the injured five-year-old victim. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. It is alleged that her four-year-old brother found an unsecured handgun belonging to a relative of his parents and shot his sister in the head.

Jonclaude Norwood, Sr. and Melissa Ann Kiser have each been charged with two counts of Child Abuse - Second Degree.*

Prosecutor Worthy said, "All of these cases are tragic. Young, precious lives are being forever altered and even lost, and we can absolutely prevent this. If you choose to have guns in your homes, please make sure that children and teens do not have easy access. It is that simple."

Norwood and Kiser were arraigned at 9:00 a.m. this morning in 17th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 11, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Both defendants received a $25,000 personal bond. Please contact the Redford Township Police Department for a photograph of the defendants.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
