Two Detroiters Charged in West Outer Drive/Plymouth Road Fatal Car Crash

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marcel Dasean Rembert, 21, (DOB: 02/03/1999) and Zryeal Jarkia-Flossie Stringer, 19 (DOB: 05/05/2001), both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed a 48-year-old Detroit man.

On July 31, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 12900 block of Dale Street in response to a threats and weapons call. After the officers arrived at the location, they observed a vehicle, allegedly driven by Defendant Stringer, with three passengers - Rembert, a 15-year-old female and an adult male - approach, stop, turn around and travel eastbound on Glendale Street. Officers followed the vehicle eastbound on Glendale. They observed the vehicle on Rouge Park Drive and then turn southbound onto West Outer Drive. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, disregarded the red traffic signal at Plymouth Road and crashed into a vehicle traveling eastbound on Plymouth Road.

Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Medics also transported the front-seat passenger in the defendant's vehicle to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. It is alleged that Defendant Stringer drove the vehicle at a high rate of speed, disregarded the red traffic signal at West Outer Drive and Plymouth Road and crashed into the victim's vehicle. Investigation by the Detroit Police revealed a weapon in the defendant's vehicle. Police officers arrested the defendants at the scene.
