Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has amended charges for Kimberly Jean Garrett, 39 (DOB: 6/25/76) in connection with the hit and run fatal car crash that killed an eight-year-old Westland boy. On June 20, 2015 at approximately 8:24 p.m., at Delton and Darwin Streets in Westland, Garrett was alleged to have been operating her vehicle while under the influence of drugs when she hit an eight-year-old boy who was riding his bike. The defendant was followed by a citizen who called 911, and then followed Garrett to a location in the 8800 block of Cromwell in Romulus.  The police arrested Garrett at a home in Romulus.

The defendant was originally charged in this case on June 22, 2015, when the child was alive. On June 24, 2015, the child died in a local hospital from injuries sustained in the car crash. As a result, the charges have been amended to Second Degree Murder, Operating While Intoxicated Resulting in Death, Reckless Driving Resulting in Death, Failure to Stop at an Accident Causing Serious Injury or Death, Operating While Under the Influence Second Offense.

Garrett is expected to be arraigned in 18th District Court in Westland on Monday, June 29, 2015. We have not received a time for the arraignment. Please confirm the time with the police or the court.
