Seventeen-year-Old Detroiter Charged in Bentler Street Homicide George Stewart, 17, of Detroit, has been charged with the homicide of Paul Monchnik, 91, of Detroit On November 23, 2015 at 2:55 a.m, Detroit Police and firefighters were called to a fire at Mr. Monchnik's home in the 20500 block of Bentler in Detroit The victim was discovered with severe burns all over his body and a head injury. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. It is alleged that Stewart fatally assaulted Monchnik and set his house on fire.

Stewart has been charged with First Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Arson. He was arraigned and remanded to jail. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for December 3, 2015; the preliminary examination is scheduled for December 9, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge King.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The alleged facts in this case are that the defendant killed his elderly neighbor by beating him and attempting to burn the evidence. The word heinous does not even begin to describe this crime.
