Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged James Dumas, 39, (DOB: 02/13/1982), of Southfield, in connection with the fatal shooting of Denard Richmond, 39, of Detroit.

On July 18, 2021 at approximately 2:54 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a Coney Island restaurant in the 18800 block of Joseph Campau Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased. It is alleged that Defendant Dumas discharged a handgun during a verbal altercation, fatally wounding the victim.

James Dumas has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and two counts of Felony Firearm. * He was arraigned on July 22, 2021 in 36th District Court and given a $100,000 cash/surety bond. He was also ordered to have no contact with the complaining witness. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 19, 2021 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 26, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Patricia Jefferson.
