Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Gerelle Nathaniel-Romeo Rhan, 19, (DOB: 02/20/2001) of Southgate, MI in connection with the fatal car crash that killed 48-year-old Chris Tina Ward, of Dearborn.

On May 20, 2020 at approximately 7:53 p.m., Westland police officers, as well as officers from Garden City, were dispatched to the area of Merriman Road and Cherry Hill Road in response to a car crash. Upon arrival, the officers located two damaged vehicles at rest in the southeast corner of the intersection of Cherry Hill Road and Merriman Road. Medics arrived and found the lifeless body of Ms. Ward in her vehicle. The victim was transported from the scene. Officers also located the defendant who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that the defendant was driving southbound on Merriman Road at a high rate of speed and in an aggressive manner. It is further alleged that the defendant disregarded a red signal at the intersection of Middlebelt and Cherry Hill and struck the victim's vehicle as she crossed the intersection eastbound on Cherry Hill.

"The alleged actions of the defendant will drastically alter his life, but it will forever and profoundly affect the lives of Ms. Ward's family and friends", said Prosecutor Worthy.

Rhan has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Reckless Driving Causing Death.* He was arraigned this afternoon in a local hospital this afternoon and will remain in police custody; upon release he will be remanded to the Wayne County Jail. The Probable Cause Conference will be held on June 4, 2020 and the Preliminary Examination will be held on June 11, 2020, both in 18th District Court in Westland.
