Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devin Delon McKee, 16 (DOB: 01/29/04) and Lanyah Quan Brady, 15 (DOB: 06/27/05), both of Detroit, in connection with the homicide of Uber driver Timothy Marcus Paerkins, 60, of Southfield. On January 21, 2021 at 9:20 a.m. Detroit police officers were called to the West Edsel Ford Service Drive and Elmer Street. When they arrived, they observed Mr. Perkins in an alleyway at Elmer and Lawrence in distress, bleeding from his head and with multiple stab wounds on his back and torso area. Mr. Perkins was transported by the police to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. His death was caused by multiple stab wounds.

Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to recovery of the stolen car and to the indentification of the two teen suspects. The teens were taken in custody on January 25, 2021. It is alleged that McKee and Brady called for an Uber driver for the purpose of robbing him. Once inside Mr. Perkin's car McKee robbed and carjacked him by attacking him alone with a hammer and stabbing him with a knife. It is further alleged that Brady was also armed with a knife and stabbed Mr. Perkins. After the attack the couple stole his car, took his personal property, and fled from the scene. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.

The defendants have been charged as adults with First Degree Felony Murder, Carjacking and Armed Robbery Causing Serious Injury. * The defendants were arrainged in 36th District Court today. McKee was remanded to jail and Brady recieved a $1 million cash/surety bond with a GPS tether, and house arrest if the bond is posted. They will have a Probable Cause Conference on February 10, 2021 before Judge Ronald Giles. Please request a photograph of the defendants after the arraignment.

"It is rare that we use the automatic waiver. But the alleged facts in this case are especially heinous and violent", said Prosecutor Worthy. "The evidence in this case will show that these defendants called an Uber with a plan to rob and carjack the driver, beat and bludgeoned him, and left him in an alley to die."
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
