Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Darius Evonte Lanier, 19, (DOB: 10/21/2001) and Eugene Meredith Hubbard, 21, (DOB: 06/01/2000), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of twoyear-old Brison Christian, and the non-fatal shooting of his nine-year-old brother BJ, both of Dearborn.

On June 17, 2021 at approximately 9:39 p.m. the children and their mother were being driven from BJ's basketball practice on I-75 and McNichols by their father Brian Christian. Mr. Christian heard multiple gunshots and his car began to malfunction. When he pulled over, he and his wife realized that his sons were shot, and the car was impacted by multiple gunshots. 911 was called and at approximately 9:40 p.m. Michigan State Police arrived at I-75 and McNichols. Upon arrival, officers observed Brison with a gunshot wound to the head and his brother BJ with a gunshot wound to his left arm. Medics arrived on scene and transported both children to a local hospital for treatment. Brison succumbed to his wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. BJ was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigation by the Michigan State Police Special Investigation Section and Second District Fugitive Team led to the arrest of the defendants on June 19, 2021. Because this happened on an expressway MSP has jurisdiction over the case. It is alleged that the defendants opened fire on the vehicle with the two children on the freeway before fleeing the scene. It is further alleged that the defendants mistakenly identified the Christian's black truck based upon its color and make; the Christian family were innocent victims. No further details are being released at this time because the case remains under investigation.

Darius Evonte Lanier and Eugene Meredith Hubbard have been charged with one count of FirstDegree Murder, three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Discharge from a Vehicle Causing Death, one count of Discharge from a Vehicle Causing Injury, two counts of Discharge from a Vehicle, and eight counts of Felony Firearm. * They were arraigned and remanded to jail without bond this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is on July 6, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination is on July 12, 2021 at 1:30 p.m., both before Judge Roberta Archer. Please request a photograph of the defendants from the Michigan State Police.

"The Christian family were completely innocent victims. This was a family returning from a child sports activity that were mistaken for others because of their truck. Two year old Brison Is dead and his nine year old brother barely escaped serious injury," said Prosecutor Worthy." A child is dead because adults decided that they were judge, jury, and executioner. They will get a fair trial, but Brison doesn't get to have a life."

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
