Wayne Man Charged in Carjacking of Vehicle with Children Inside
On May 18, 2025 at approximately 11:00pm, Wayne Police Officers were notified via Central Dispatch of a stolen vehicle with three children inside of it that just occurred, after a mother stopped at the store to purchase groceries. The blue Chevy Avalanche was last seen traveling east on Michigan Ave. A broadcast was quickly shared to neighboring agencies with the vehicle description. The vehicle was shortly after spotted parked in the 27000 block of Cherry Hill in Dearborn Heights by an Undercover Dearborn Police Detective, occupied with a black male subject getting in and out of it. Within one minute of the vehicle being spotted, Dispatch reported a caller could hear children crying in the parking lot of a business in the area of Middlebelt and Grandview in Inkster, nearly 2 miles away. Officers arrived and discovered the 3 year old and two 18 month old twins unharmed and still in their car seats. The children were checked by EMS on scene and returned to their mother.
The 25 year old black male suspect was taken into custody in connection with this incident that is still under investigation.

The suspect in this case is identified as Byant Lamont Brown II, a 25 year old Wayne resident. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Brown with one count of Unlawful Driving Away a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony.
Brown was arraigned on 5/21/25 before Judge B. O'Leary of the 29th District Court. Brown was given a Probable Cause Conference date of May 27th, 2025 at 1:15pm, that will be held at the 29th District Court. Brown was given a $100,000 cash or surety bond and turned over to the Wayne County jail.
