Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Steffon Dupree Mitchell, 26, of Westland, in connection with the non-fatal stabbing of a 75-year-old Saint Clair man.

On March 16, 2023, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 31600 block of Cowan Road in Westland for a reported stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a stab wound to the neck. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that while sitting in the rear passenger seat of the driver's vehicle, Defendant Mitchell stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck before exiting the vehicle and fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Westland Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day.

Steffon Dupree Mitchell has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, and one count of Felonious Assault. *

He was arraigned on March 19, 2023, in 18th District Court and given a $50,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and home confinement. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 30, 2023, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 6, 2023, before Judge Mark McConnell.
