Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Raymond Alkewich, 31, DOB (01/14/1990), of Wyandotte, in connection with a fatal hit and run that killed a pregnant woman, 35, DOB (04/27/1985), of Southgate.

On March 13, 2021 at 7:45 p.m., Southgate police were dispatched to Fort Street and Superior for a pregnant woman, who was struck by a vehicle and fled the scene. It is alleged that the defendant was intoxicated and driving at a high speed before striking the woman and fleeing. Officers and medics arrived to treat the victim. A short time later, officers received information that the victim had passed away, along with her unborn child.

Investigation by the Southgate Police Department led to the identification of Raymond Alkewich as the driver who left the scene. He has been charged with Failure to Stop at a Scene of an Accident Causing Death. * He was arraigned today, March 16, 2021 in 28th District Court. The defendant received a $2 Million bond. His Probable Cause Conference is March 26, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in 28th District Court. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Southgate Police Department.
