Wayne County Cares

The Wayne County Cares Program is designed to help those individuals impacted by the most recent state shut down. This program is for workers in the restaurant, hospitality, entertainment, and fitness industry who have been impacted by the most recent Michigan Pause orders. If selected to receive the award in the random drawing, applicants will receive a ONE time payment of $500.

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must reside in the Wayne County
  2. Applicant must have an annual income in 2019 of $76,265 or below, prior to the COVID-19 crisis. This income threshold is calculated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) using data from 2019. For more information on how HUD calculates this figure please click here; to access a table that specifies the Area Median Income for Wayne County for 2019 please click here and search "Wayne County".
  3. Applicant should be a current or former employee since March 2020 at one of the following industries affected by Michigan's latest "PAUSE" policy which includes food service, entertainment venues, hospitality, and group fitness.
  4. If you worked at a restaurant or bar, winery or brewery you must NOT be the owner or manager of the food service establishment

Q: When can I apply?
A: The application will go live on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 9:00 AM and will close at midnight on Tuesday, December 15. If you are picked and verified as eligible, you will be contacted via email.
Q: Where can I apply?
A: You can apply online at www.Waynecounty.com/backtowork on Thursday, December 10 at 9:00 AM.
Q: How are applicants selected?
A: Only applicants with a verified address in Wayne County, MI who meet the income and employment requirements will be added to a randomized list. The randomized list identifies applicants who will move forward onto the next step in the process. Applicants will be notified via email (if they provided no email then a call will be made). If they have been selected. We ask that applicants closely monitor their e-mails for updates on the program.
Q: How do I know if I am eligible for the program funds?

A: You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:

  1. Applicant must reside in the Wayne County
  2. Applicant must have an annual income in 2019 of $76,265 or below, prior to the COVID-19 crisis.     • Food Service
    • Entertainment (Movie Theater, Bowling, Water Parks, Arenas, etc.)
    • Group Fitness
    • Hospitality
  4. If you worked at a restaurant or bar, winery or brewery you must not be the owner of the food service establishment.

Note: Qualification will not result in grant of funds as the final decision will be made by a randomized draw.

Q: Is my immigration status needed to participate in this program?
A: No, Wayne County is not asking or taking immigration status of applicants into account.
Q: Do I need a bank account?
A: No, funds will be awarded to you. You will NOT need a bank account.
Q: I received a call from someone asking for my social security number. What should I do?
A: Please be aware of scammers. At no point will applicants be asked to share their Social Security Numbers over the phone.
