Commissioner Raymond Basham, D-Taylor, recently honored Pia's Ristorante Italiano with a resolution honoring the eatery for 61 years of business in Taylor.

Luigi and Josephine Pecci opened Pia's at 21142 Ecorse Road in April 1955. Luigi - who was an active member of the Taylor community - passed away in 2005, and is survived by Josephine and their children, Luigi, Dina and Paolo. Dina is Pia's general manager.

"Pia's truly is an institution in Taylor," Commissioner Basham said. "It's a wonderful restaurant run by a wonderful family. These are the kinds of businesses that are absolutely the backbone of a community. The Peccis have worked hard to provide quality Italian food to the community, and 61 years of business shows just how good of a job they're doing."

Pia's Ristorante Italiano specializes in pizza, homemade pastas and hearty Italian dishes, and also offers a full bar, lounge, booths, tables and a room for large parties.

Commissioner Basham has honored several longtime businesses in the 14th District, which covers Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, Rockwood, Taylor and Woodhaven.
