On April 2, 2020, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Oswald John Tallent, 47, (DOB: 12/06/1974) of Canton Township, in connection with the assaults on his 44-year-old wife and eightyear-old daughter. The couple have two other children, ages six years old and four years old.

On March 30, 2020, at approximately 1:14 p.m., Canton Township police were dispatched to the 7300 block of Stonebrook Drive in response to a domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the adult female victim in the driveway of the residence with lacerations to her face and body. The eight-year-old victim was also discovered with a bump to her head and scrapes on her body. It is alleged the defendant caused the lacerations to his wife's face with a saw. It is further alleged that the defendant slammed the eight-year-old victim into the pavement before dragging her up the driveway by her hair. EMTs arrived at the location and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. The defendant fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by nearby by the Canton Township police.

Tallent was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Torture, Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Third-Degree Child Abuse. * He was arraigned on April 1, 2020, in 35th District Court in Canton Township.

Today, the defendant was sentenced to 28 to 50 years for Assault with Intent to Murder, 28 to 50 years for Torture, 10 to 20 years for Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, and two to four years for Third-Degree Child Abuse, to be served concurrently.
