Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Steven Hicks, 31 (04/05/1990), of Wayne, Michigan, in connection with the homicide of Daniel Willard Sweeney, 78, of Dearborn.

On February 11, 2022, at 8:53 p.m., Dearborn Police officers responded to 911 call at house in the 7510 block of Indiana in Dearborn. A male later identified as Hicks, was observed to be disheveled, underdressed and without shoes in very cold weather. After encountering Defendant Hicks, the police investigated a home in the 7520 block of Indiana to do a well-being check on any occupants of the house. The police went inside, and the home appeared to be ransacked. On the floor of the living room, the owner of the house, later identified as Mr. Sweeney, was found covered with a blanket. His car was missing from the home but was later found by the police at another location. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. It is alleged that the defendant stabbed Mr. Sweeney multiple times with a large kitchen knife and stole Mr. Sweeney's car.

Defendant Hicks has been charged with one count each of First-Degree Murder and Felony Murder. * He was arraigned today and was remanded to jail by Judge Gene Hunt. His Probable Cause Conference is on February 28, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. and his Preliminary Examination is on March 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in 19th District Court.
