Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Auorahem Jatoo Safar, 31, of Dearborn Heights, in connection with a car crash that injured a 57-year-old man and a 47-year-old man, both of Detroit.

On April 20, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., at the intersection of West McNichols and Hamilton Avenue in Highland Park, it is alleged that Defendant Safar was driving, saw the two men and struck them while they were crossing West McNichols, before fleeing the scene. More specific information about the case will be introduced as evidence at the Preliminary Examination. Investigation by the Highland Park Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on April 28, 2025.

Auorahem Jatoo Safar has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Cause Great Bodily Harm, two counts of Driving While License Suspended-Causing Serious Bodily Injury, one count of Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident-Causing Serious Injury, two counts of Hate Crime, and one count of Tampering with Evidence.*

He was arraigned this afternoon in 30th District Court and given a $250,000 cash/surety bond and the defendant was ordered to surrender his passport. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Brigette Officer Holley.
