Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Leah Renee Johnson, 30, of Dearborn Heights, in connection with the fatal shooting of Nicholas Stevens, 41, also of Dearborn Heights. The victim is the boyfriend of Defendant Johnson. The defendant and the victim were residing together at the time of the incident.

On May 1, 2024, at approximately 2:38 a.m., Dearborn Heights police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 25100 block of Colgate Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the bedroom of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Stevens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on May 5, 2024.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Johnson produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding the victim.

Defendant Johnson's previous charges of Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm have been amended because of the death of Mr. Stevens. She has now been charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.*

She was arraigned on the new charges and remanded to jail today in 20th District Court before Judge David Turfe. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
