On March 15, 2021, at 11:30 p.m. police were called to an apartment in the 7240 block of Rutland by a relative to do a wellbeing check on Ms. Valencia Burden. Ms. Burden was located on her bedroom floor and pronounced dead at the scene. She died from multiple stab wounds to the chest area. It is alleged that earlier on the same day her live-in boyfriend, Kevin L. Henry, 50, of Detroit, fatally stabbed her and fled from the scene in her car. On the same day, the defendant turned himself into the police at the Eighth Precinct and was taken into custody.

Defendant Henry has been charged with First Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence. * He was arraigned and remanded to jail today. His Probable Cause Conference is on April 5, 2021, and his Preliminary Examination is on April 12, 2021.

"This is our ninth alleged domestic violence homicide of 2021. If this continues, we will far exceed the cases from last year and they were a record high," said Prosecutor Worthy. "The numbers of non-fatal domestic violence cases have also exploded. We had over 10,000 no- fatal warrant requests in 2020. These trends are truly frightening."

* The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
