Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Denzel Lee Talbert, 22 (DOB: 3/17/93), of Detroit, in connection with a fatal shooting incident that took place in Greektown. On June 21, 2015 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Detroit police were called to the rear of the 400 block of Monroe because gunshots were fired in the area. When they arrived, they observed Martel Taylor, 18, lying in the alley unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. They also spoke to a 21-year-old Detroit man who said he was shot and needed medical attention. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Talbert got into an altercation with a group of men in Greektown, chased them and fired shots, killing Taylor and wounding the 21-year-old man. More specific facts about the incident will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Talbert was arraigned today on charges of First Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm. He was remanded. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 9, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Kenneth King. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 16, 2015 at 1:30 p.m., also before Judge King.
