Detroit Man Charged in Quintuple Shooting on Ohio Street
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Charles Deandre Carter, 47, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Luzell Etheridge, 46, of Detroit, and the non-fatal shootings of a 49-year-old woman of Eastpointe, a 31-year-old man, of Southfield, a 56-year-old man, and a 31-year-old woman, both of Detroit.
On May 20, 2024, at approximately 12:13 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 17000 block of Ohio Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located Mr. Etheridge lying on the sidewalk in front of home, deceased, with a gunshot wound to the chest. The non-fatal victims were privately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that during a verbal altercation between the defendant and multiple people, Defendant Carter produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Etheridge, and non-fatally wounding the four remaining victims.
Charles Deandre Carter has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and five counts of Felony Firearm.*
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on May 22, 2024, before Magistrate Laura Echartea in 36th District Court . The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 29, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 4, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
