Detroit Woman Charged in Evergreen Road Fatal Car Crash
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dejah Latre Berry, 33, of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that killed Kwasi Agbottah, 43, and Elizabeth Agbottah, 41, also of Detroit.
On April 25, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Evergreen Road and Fenkell Avenue for a reported car crash. Upon their arrival, officers observed medics providing aid to the victims. Medics transported the victims to local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that Defendant Berry was driving southbound on Evergreen Road near Fenkell Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed over into the northbound lanes of Evergreen Road, before striking the victims while they were sitting at a bus stop.
Dejah Latre Berry has been charged with two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Death and two counts of Driving While License Suspened, Revoked, or Denied Causing Death.*
"I really do not know what else can be said about drivers driving like there are no rules of the road and thinking they can drive anyway they want to drive. That allegedly happened in this case, and now two innocent people at a bus stop are dead," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
She was arraigned this afternoon 36th District Court and given a $50,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for April 30, 2025, before Judge William McConnico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 7, 2025,and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 14, 2025, before Judge Shawn Jacque. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
