Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jony Saad Alatto, 32, of Macomb, MI, in connection with the fatal shootings of John Coffie Jr., 76, Alphonso Henry, 55, and Morriss Campbell Jr., 41, and the non-fatal shootings of a 55-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman, all of Detroit.

On August 6, 2022, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 13800 block of Saratoga Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the five victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Mr. Campbell deceased. The remaining victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mr. Henry succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased later the same day. On August 17, 2022, Mr. Coffie succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that Defendant Alatto entered the residence and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Coffie, Mr. Henry, and Mr. Campbell, and non-fatally wounding the 55-year-old and 33-year-old victims. It is also alleged that the defendant robbed the residence before fleeing the scene.

Jony Saad Alatto has been charged with three counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, five counts of Armed Robbery, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and 11 counts of Felony Firearm.*

"Two years ago, a mass shooting took place in an alleged drug house. Five people were shot and three of them were fatalities. This was difficult to put together but because of the consistent and diligent work of the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, I am able to announce charges today. I am confident that justice will prevail, and that this defendant will be held to account," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 7, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 14, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
