Motor City Casino Warrant Request - We have received a warrant request in connection with a carjacking that occurred at Motor City Casino that is being reviewed by our Elder Abuse Unit. It is currently being reviewed. There will be an update when a decision has been made.

Redford Man Charged in Motor City Casino Carjacking Case

Today Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged a 49-year-old Redford man* in connection with carjacking a 68-year-old Sterling Heights woman and a 78-year-old Clinton Township woman as they were leaving the Motor City Casino. On September 17, 2015 at 5:30 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant got into the car with the two women and pulled out a hand gun, demanded money, and took their purses. He ordered the 68-year-old woman to drive the car and when they reached a field near Schoolcraft and Appoline Street, he ordered the women out of the car and drove away. The women walked approximately two miles until they met a Good Samaritan who helped them to safety at the Second Police Precinct.

Investigation by the Michigan State Police Gaming Division and the Detroit Police Department led to the September 19, 2015 arrest of the defendant by the Commercial Auto Theft crew. He has been charged with two counts each of: Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Unlawful Imprisonment and Felony Firearm. The Detroit Police Department says that he is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.

*Note: The defendant's name will not be released until we have confirmed that a magistrate has signed the warrant request.

Redford Man Charged in Motor City Casino Carjacking Case

On Monday, September 21, 2015 Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Wayne Darrell Jones, 49, of Redford, in connection with carjacking a 68-year-old Sterling Heights woman and a 78-yearold Clinton Township woman as they were leaving the Motor City Casino. Jones was arraigned late yesterday and received a $100,000 cash/surety bond. His probable cause conference will be held on September 28, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and his preliminary examination will be held on October 5, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.

Erin Justice - Defendant convicted of Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm in the homicide of Alicia Marie Fox. Today Justice was sentenced by Judge to 45 years to 80 years on the Second Degree Murder charge, which is consecutive to the two year sentence for Felony Firearm. The investigation regarding the missing children in this case remains open and active.

Detroit Man Charged in Robbery/Carjacking of Pizza Delivery Man

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Joshua Alphonso Dickey, 24, of Detroit, in connection with the robbery of Youseff Harajly, of Dearborn Heights. On September 12, 2015 at 11:00 p.m., the victim, who was employed as a pizza delivery man, made a delivery to a location in the 7200 block of Stahelin in Detroit. It is alleged that Dickey robbed Mr. Harajly at gunpoint and took his money, identification and personal property. Mr. Harajly was forced into the house at gunpoint by the defendant and then left in a closet that was barricaded with a chair. He was able to force the door open and when he ran out of the house, he discovered that his car had been stolen. Mr. Harajly immediately ran to a local store and asked the employees to call the Detroit Police Department. As a result of an investigation by the Commercial Auto Theft Carjacking Unit, Dickey was arrested on September 21, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

Dickey was arraigned today on the following charges:

  1. Carjacking;
  2. Armed Robbery;
  3. Unlawful Imprisonment;
  4. Motor Vehicle - Unlawful Driving Away; and
  5. Stolen Property - R&C Motor Vehicle.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for October 1, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination is scheduled for October 8, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., both before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "It is always particularly disturbing when every day people are simply living their lives, going about their business and they become victims of violent crime. The alleged actions of the defendant in this case are simply inexcusable."

Highland Park Man Charged in Bus Stop Murder

Today Malcolm Bernard Benson, 50, of Highland Park, has been charged in connection with the homicide of Stanley Paul Carter, 59, also of Highland Park. On September 16, 2015 at 5:16 a.m., Mr. Carter was waiting for a bus in the 11800 block of Woodward and Tennyson in Highland Park when he was approached by Benson. It is alleged that the defendant robbed and fatally shot Mr. Carter one time in the chest with a hand gun. Mr. Carter was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigation by the Highland Park Police Department led to the arrest of Benson. During the investigation it was discovered that in the early morning hours shortly before the homicide Benson also sexually assaulted a Highland Park woman near the area where Mr. Carter was killed.

He is charged with First Degree Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm - Second Degree. The defendant will be arraigned on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in 30th District Court in Highland Park.

Redford Man Charged in Homicide and Mutilation of a Corpse

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Dexter Lamar Williams, 44, of Redford, with one count of First Degree Premeditated Murder (Life) and Mutilation of a Dead Body (10-year Felony). On September 21, 2015 at 2:07 p.m., Redford Police officers went to an apartment in the 25000 block of Five Mile Road to do a wellness check on Ann Marie Gorup, 46, of Redford. When they arrived at the apartment, Williams was there. The officers observed blood in several rooms and observed several female body parts in the home. It is alleged that Williams, who had been living with Ms. Gorup, killed the victim and mutilated her dead body. He was arrested and taken into custody at the crime scene.

Williams was arraigned on September 24, 2015 in 17th District Court in Redford. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 6, 2015 at 8:40 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 13, 2015. Both hearings are before Judge Karen Khalil in 17th District Court in Redford.

The defendant will be arraigned on Friday, September 25, 2015. His probable cause hearing is on October 6, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in 30th District Court in Highland Park. The preliminary examination has not been scheduled at this time.

Derrick Felton - Defendant convicted of Harboring a Dangerous Animal Causing, Serious Injury. He received a sentence of two years probation with six months in the Wayne County Jail at the end of his sentence. He must not possess or own any animals, he must comply with all court and probation orders, he must pays costs and fees to the court (no restitution because it has already been settled via civil judgment) and Judge Michael Callahan will review Felton's probation after 18 months. If he has completed all requirements without violation and paid all that is owed, the judge will suspend the six month jail sentence and close probation.
