Detroit Man Charged in Gilchrist Street Homicide

James Lee Wright, 27(DOB: 02/13/1992), of Detroit, has been charged by Prosecutor Kym Worthy in connection with the homicide of Jerome Jackson, 49, also of Detroit. On November 10, 2019 at 1:37 p.m., Detroit police officers responded to a police run in the 20220 block of Gilchrist Street. When they arrived on the scene, they observed Jackson lying on his back in the front yard of the location, with a gunshot wound in the chest area. Medics pronounced him deceased at the scene. The defendant was arrested by police on the scene. It is alleged that the defendant shot the victim after a brief argument.

On November 13, 2019, Defendant Wright was arraigned on one count each of Second Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.* He received a $300,000/10% bond. The Probable Cause Conference is on November 26, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination is on December 3, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court.
