Detroit Man and Woman Charged in May 18th Police Shootings

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Deantrae Corey Oneal, 22 (DOB: 06/11/1996) and Breanna Takseha Washington, 22 (DOB: 10/20/1996), both of Detroit, in connection with shooting and wounding two Detroit Police officers and injuring a third officer.

On May 18, 2019 at 10:35 p.m., three uniformed police officers were on routine patrol in a fully marked vehicle when they stopped to investigate a sports utility vehicle in the alley of the 16500 block of Greenfield. It is alleged that the vehicle was driven by Oneal with Defendant Washington in the front passenger seat. While Officer Christopher Bush investigated Oneal, he became uncooperative, placed the car in reverse, striking Officer Bush's legs. It is alleged that Oneal then exited the car and fired a handgun weapon at the three officers. As a result, the officers exchanged gun fire with Oneal before he escaped on foot. Investigation by the Detroit Police Special Response Team led to the arrest of the defendant, who was found hiding in the basement of a house in the 15700 block of Prest.

Officer Bush suffered leg injuries and Officer Mario Rodriguez was wounded in the abdomen. The third officer was injured, but did not sustain gunshot wounds. All of the officers were taken to local hospitals for treatment. After he was arrested, the defendant was transported by medics to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds sustained when he fired upon the officers.

Defendant Washington has been charged with one count of Accessory After the Fact.* It is alleged that she gave false information to the police when they were investigating the shooting incident. She was arraigned on May 29, 2019 before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 4, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 11,2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court. Oneal has been charged with: 1) three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder; 2) Police Officer -Resisting/Obstructing/Assaulting, Causing Serious Impairment; 3) Home Invasion - 2nd Degree; 4) Felon In Possession; 5) Carrying Concealed Weapon; 6) two counts of Police Officer- Resisting/Obstructing Causing Injury and 8) three counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White and received a $1,000,000 cash/surety bond. He will have a Probable Cause Conference on June 4, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; his Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 11, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Michael Wagner in 36th District Court. Oneal is represented by attorney Marlon Evans.
