Detroit Man Charged in Triple Fatal Coney Island Shootings

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Mickey Dane Douglas, 25, (DOB: 01/18/1995), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shootings of 34-year-old Brian Jackson, 24-year-old Carnell Watts and 20-year-old Courtney Willis, all of Detroit. Defendant Douglas is also charged with the non-fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Detroit man.

On July 20, 2020, at approximately 11:01 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a Coney Island restaurant in the 9100 block of Dexter Avenue in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body a male in the parking lot. Inside the restaurant, the officers discovered the lifeless bodies of two more men, and a surviving victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The three victims were pronounced dead at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived and transported the surviving victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that Douglas fatally shot the three victims and wounded the fourth victim. More complete facts will be presented in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "The fact that this terrible tragedy happened is yet another reason that we must continue to work towards silencing the violence in Detroit, continue to work with our youth and young adults, and fight even harder to protect the programs designed to help them are not snuffed out even in these difficult economic times. No dispute, fight, or feud is worth three dead bodies and another fighting for their life. We must uplift the families of these victims and make sure that they receive the justice that they deserve."

Douglas has been charged with three counts of First Degree Murder, one count of Assault With Intent to Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and five counts of Felony Firearm.*

Douglas was arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 5, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 12, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court.
