Ecorse Man Charged with Child Abuse of 13-month-old Zion Reed
On September 18, 2020, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged James Edward Gibson, Jr, 34, (DOB: 11/29/1985) of Ecorse, in connection with the physical abuse of Zion Michael Reed while living with Defendant Lisa Marie Reed and her two 13-month old twin sons. Gibson is not the father of the twins.
On July 28, 2020 at approximately 8:06 a.m., Ecorse police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of 7th Street in response to a child abuse call. Zyaire Reed was pronounced deceased, and Zion Reed survived and is continuing to receive treatment for his injuries. It is alleged that the defendant was the live-in partner of Defendant Reed when he physically abused Zion Reed.
No further details will be released at this time due to the ongoing homicide investigation into the death of Zyaire Reed.
The defendant has been charged with Child Abuse First Degree in connection with victim Zion Reed.* This is a felony punishable by life imprisonment or any term of years.
"There is simply not much that prepares you for the allegations in this case for 13-month-old twin Zion Reed. It is important to note that the investigation into the homicide of Zaire Reed is not completed, and we are waiting to receive and review other work that we have requested in this case," said Prosecutor Worthy.
Defendant Gibson was arraigned this morning before Judge Greg Clifton in 25th District Court in Lincoln Park. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 6, 2020. No Preliminary Examination date has been scheduled at this time. Gibson was remanded to jail.
Lisa Marie Reed, 34, has been charged with Child Abuse First Degree in relation to Zion Reed. She was remanded to jail in 25th District Court in Ecorse. Her next court date is on October 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. before Judge David Zelenak in 25th District Court in Lincoln Park.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
