Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Desean James Gee, 34 (DOB: 10/01/1985), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal car crash that killed Adrian Thomas Bascom, 40, and Jalen Kristopher Whitlock, 27, and injured a 14-year-old female, all of Detroit.

On April 19, 2020 at approximately 5:12 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the scene of a car crash at West Outer Drive and Lyndon Street. Upon arrival, the officers found the defendant's vehicle and another vehicle with the three victims inside. Bystanders assisted in removing the rear-seat passenger before the victims' vehicle became engulfed in flames. The two victims trapped in the front seat of the vehicle perished and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Medics arrived and transported the 14-year-old victim to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. Detroit police officers arrested the defendant at the scene.

It is alleged that while traveling westbound on Lyndon Street, the defendant drove his vehicle at a high rate of speed, crossed the center line on Lyndon Street and disregarded the red light at Outer Driver before striking the victims' vehicle on the passenger side.

Gee has been charged with two counts of Second Degree Murder, two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Death and one count of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Bodily Function.* He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court. Bond was set at $150,000; if released, he must have a GPS tether and he is allowed to work. The Probable Cause Conference is on May 12, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Roberta Archer. The Preliminary Examination will be scheduled on a later date.
